Trick or Treat

Lying on the couch at 8
watching a cliche horror movie
on Halloween with a bored look
and ready to nod off

The door bell jarring ring
sends a jolt of adrenaline
before slowly getting up
to look through the peephole

A small group of children 
dressed up in various costumes
grabbing a bowl of homemade hard candy
before opening the door

"Trick or Treat!"
Giving a small grin
looking at them 
with mock horror

Handing them each
a handful into bags
almost bulging
with the sweets they gathered

Bidding them a good night
and closing the door
the grin changing to a smirk
wondering how they'll react

To the taste of laxative....
